In 2006 the OpenAgenda.org web site was replaced by the newer CharityScorecard.org site. I've left the old OpenAgenda.org content here just for the historical record.

Old Bookkeeping Records

I started the openagenda project in early 2005, with about $180,000 available to give away. Most of that money came from my Mom, in gifts made to me between 1996 and 2003.

For the purposes of the new openagenda project, it's enough just to know what the total amount available is. Probably nobody cares too much about the historical accounting details: when the money came in, or what the investment gains were over the years, or what charitable donations I made with the money prior to 2005. But I needed to keep track of all that for myself anyway, and in the spirit of transparency I thought I'd go ahead and include some quick summary tables here.

You can help! — How should accounting info be presented?

Are the tables above okay? Too detailed? Not detailed enough?

Would it be good to have this info available in an Excel format .xls file (proprietary but widely available)? Or an OpenOffice Calc file format like .ods or .sxc, even though they haven't yet taken off?

Would it be good to have some simple JavaScript widget that initially displayed just the summary info, but that allowed you to click on disclosure widgets to show progressively more info? Can we find an existing open source widget that does that, or if you're a programmer, do you feel like throwing one together? For a taste of something similar, have a look at my old 2004 pivot-table example.
